I’ve made a decision, and it has been a difficult decision to make because I don’t want to lose even one single user! However, the cause is right, and hopefully it’ll save me some headaches in the long run. I have decided to put the ban on IE6 for List Central. In step with the folks over at Weebly, who put the IE6 No More website together, and the long and respectable list of folks who have committed to the cause of abolishing the antiquated browser that has make more heads gray and/or bald in the past decade then any other tool the web developer must work with on a daily basis.
In actuality, it isn’t really a ban. In accordance with the site, I will include a piece of code that determine if the user is using IE 6, or even IE 5.5 and it will display a large warning banner across the top of the page, which encourages the IE 6 user to upgrade their browser. The banner looks like this:
I hope my commitment to this cause doesn’t offend any of my future users! Instead, my hope is that my IE 6 using users will pay heed to the warning, upgrade their browser, and enjoy a better web browsing experience!
Once List Central is released to the public, I will submit its name to the Weebly folks, and have it stand proudly with the rest of the companies on IE6 No More.
