Gravatars are quickly making their way across the great wide web. You can find them on blogs everywhere, and there are new applications iintegrating the use of Gravatars popping up all the time… List Central is going to be one of them!
Integrating Gravatar was an easy choice for me to make. As a blogger, I think that List Central has the potential to be a powerful tool for me. Both to help me organize my blog-thoughts, but also to promote my blog to different audiences. As the developer of List Central, I want to make List Central attractive to bloggers everywhere, and hope to improve their experience on the site. By using a system that many bloggers already like, I hope to do just that, and to show bloggers that they are very welcome here!
I should mention that Gravatar is not the only avatar option on List Central. I’m not about to force my users to use a third party system. List Central users will be free to use their Gravatar, or they can upload an image to List Central to be used as their site-wide avatar. It’s the user’s choice!
Gravatar has been around for a little more than 18 months and they have grown immensely. My suspicion is that this is because of Gravatar’s ease of use. It is very easy to integrate Gravatar into your blog or web application, and its just plain simple to associate a Gravatar with your email address(es). Michael Schwern has made the the task of Gravatar integration even easier for us Perl programmers, with his Gravatar::URL module. Thank you Gravatar, and thank you Michael Schwern!
