Hello, please let me introduce myself. My name is Marilyn Burgess. I moved out to Vancouver, BC after completing my Computer Science degree four years ago. During the time I have lived here, I bounced around from various programming jobs, each time improving my skills and ability, as well as my status in the industry, but rarely did my happiness improve. No matter the position, I felt I was toiling away, spending my time working on things that didn’t matter to me, with a little voice in the back of my head saying ‘You should be working for yourself, not not these people”.
There is no intention to insult the people I have worked for thus far, they have all been excellent, providing me invaluable learning opportunities that I am very appreciative for. Still, I have always known that I was meant to go into business for myself, though in what incarnation I didn’t know until recently. I will admit, that it feels really good to finally be pursuing my entrepreneurial aspirations.
Making the decision to start a business certainly does take guts. I’m not sure that I’ve entirely taken the plunge, as I still spend the majority of my productive hours at a nearly-full-time job, but I am happy to know what I am on the path to start up my own business and get out of the rat race, as the saying goes.
